Bone Marrow Drive for Shane McColgan

Be The Match!

Thank you to those who stopped by the Knights of Columbus Hall in Pembroke on March 9th to Swab for Shane. You may have heard about this incredible teenager, Shane McColgan, who started the Shane Gives Thanks Food Pantry in Carver when he was 7 years old, who now has leukemia and is need of a bone marrow match to save his life. If you missed us on the 9th, you can still be the match by registering with and have a swab kit mailed to you. Once you receive the swab kit, follow the instructions in the kit and mail back and you could be the match to save this young boys life, and those just like him waiting for a life saving donor.

Bone marrow donation is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure at no cost to you. It’s not an extensive surgical procedure like an organ donation. All it takes is a few minutes of your time and a swab of your cheek to find out if you’re a match. If you are, you’ll need to give a blood sample for further testing.

If you are 18-40 years old and in good health, we encourage you to get your cheek swabbed to help save a life. Tell friends, family and anyone else. The more people swabbed, the better the chance of finding a match.
